Tipperary
A sophisticated pre-Prohibition classic that marries Irish whiskey with green Chartreuse and sweet vermouth. Named after the famous Irish town, this cocktail is complex, herbal, and elegant.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
- 1 oz Sweet vermouth
- 0.5 oz Green Chartreuse
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- orange peel (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with herb-crusted lamb chops or creamed mushroom risotto to echo the drink's herbal Chartreuse notes and sophisticated vermouth sweetness. The cocktail's complexity elevates elegant, earthy dishes.
Instructions
Add Irish whiskey, sweet vermouth, green Chartreuse, and bitters to a mixing glass
Fill with ice and stir steadily for 25 to 30 seconds until well chilled
Strain into a chilled coupe glass
Express an orange peel over the surface of the drink by squeezing it skin-side down
Drop the peel into the glass as garnish
Tips
Green Chartreuse is potent and sweet; the 0.5 oz is intentionally restrained so it accents rather than dominates the whiskey A pot still whiskey like Redbreast 12 or Powers John's Lane adds body and spice that stand up to the herbal intensity Keep the sweet vermouth refrigerated after opening; oxidized vermouth will flatten this drink entirely
