Sidecar
The crown jewel of cognac cocktails, born in 1920s Paris. A perfectly balanced trio of cognac, orange liqueur, and lemon juice with a sugared rim that elevates every sip.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Cognac
- 1 oz Cointreau or triple sec
- 0.8 oz Fresh lemon juice
- sugar rim (garnish) garnish
- orange twist (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Serve alongside French onion soup or duck confit; the cognac's warmth and orange liqueur's citrus notes enhance savory, umami-forward dishes.
Instructions
Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a coupe glass and dip in fine sugar to coat half the rim
Combine cognac, Cointreau, and fresh lemon juice in a shaker
Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds
Double strain into the prepared coupe glass
Express an orange twist over the drink and rest it on the rim
Tips
Use a VSOP cognac for the best balance of flavor and value in cocktails Sugaring only half the rim gives the drinker a choice between sweet and unsweetened sips If the drink tastes too tart, add a barspoon of simple syrup rather than increasing the Cointreau
