Scotland's answer to the Manhattan. Scotch whisky and sweet vermouth stirred with bitters create a smoky, sophisticated cocktail named after the legendary Scottish folk hero.

- 1 oz Sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- brandied cherry (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Complement with smoked salmon, roasted mushrooms, or rich game dishes like venison to echo the whisky's smokiness and depth. The sweet vermouth's warmth enhances earthy, umami-rich flavors.
Instructions
Combine Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass
Fill with ice and stir for 30 seconds until properly chilled and diluted
Strain into a chilled coupe glass
Garnish with a brandied cherry on a cocktail pick
Serve immediately while cold
Tips
A smooth blended Scotch like Famous Grouse or Johnnie Walker Black Label works best; peaty single malts can overwhelm the vermouth For a Perfect Rob Roy, use equal parts sweet and dry vermouth for a drier, more complex variation This drink benefits from a rich, Italian-style sweet vermouth like Carpano Antica or Cocchi di Torino
