Revolver
A bourbon-and-coffee riff on the Manhattan created by San Francisco bartender Jon Santer. Kahlua and bourbon unite under a mist of orange bitters in a cocktail that is bold, warming, and dangerously smooth.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon
- 0.5 oz Kahlua
- 2 dashes Orange bitters
- flamed orange peel (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with rich chocolate desserts or coffee-forward dishes like mole negro or espresso-rubbed short ribs. The bourbon and coffee notes create a natural affinity with smoky, deep flavors and sweet-savory combinations.
Instructions
Add bourbon, Kahlua, and orange bitters to a mixing glass
Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for 30 seconds until well-chilled
Strain into a chilled coupe glass
Hold a wide piece of orange peel over the drink and pass a lit match under it to express and caramelize the oils
Drop the flamed orange peel into the glass
Tips
A high-proof bourbon like Bulleit or Wild Turkey 101 provides the backbone this cocktail needs to balance the sweet Kahlua The flamed orange peel is not just for show — the caramelized citrus oils add a smoky, bittersweet dimension you cannot get any other way This is essentially a two-ingredient stirred drink with bitters, so precision in the ratio is everything — adjust the Kahlua by a quarter ounce to dial in your preference
