Naked and Famous
The smoky sibling of the Paper Plane, created by bartender Joaquin Simo at Death and Co in New York. Mezcal replaces bourbon and Chartreuse adds an herbal wallop, creating a bold and unforgettable equal-parts cocktail.
Ingredients
- 0.8 oz Mezcal
- 0.8 oz Aperol
- 0.8 oz Yellow Chartreuse
- 0.8 oz Fresh lime juice
- lime wheel (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Match with charred meats, spicy tuna tartare, or smoky grilled fish tacos; the mezcal's smokiness and Aperol's bittersweet character enhance bold, savory flavors.
Instructions
Combine mezcal, Aperol, Yellow Chartreuse, and fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12 to 15 seconds
Double strain into a chilled coupe glass
Garnish with a lime wheel floated on the surface or placed on the rim
Tips
Use an espadin-based mezcal like Del Maguey Vida for the right level of smoke without overwhelming the other flavors Yellow Chartreuse is essential here — Green Chartreuse is too intense and will throw off the balance Like the Paper Plane, the equal-parts ratio is sacred; precision with a jigger matters
