Mezcal Last Word
A smoky reimagining of the Prohibition-era Last Word cocktail. Mezcal replaces gin in this equal-parts formula, and its earthy depth against Green Chartreuse, maraschino, and lime creates a hauntingly complex sipper.
Ingredients
- 0.8 oz Mezcal
- 0.8 oz Green Chartreuse
- 0.8 oz Maraschino liqueur (Luxardo)
- 0.8 oz Fresh lime juice
- brandied cherry (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Enjoy with herbed goat cheese dishes, grilled vegetables with herbs, or light game preparations. The herbal-smoke balance demands fresh, verdant accompaniments with subtle richness.
Instructions
Combine mezcal, Green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker
Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds
Double strain through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupe glass
Drop a brandied cherry into the bottom of the glass
Tips
Green Chartreuse is intensely herbal at 110 proof — the equal-parts construction keeps it in check, but precise measurement is essential Use a mezcal with assertive smoke to hold its own against the powerful Chartreuse and maraschino This cocktail improves dramatically when all ingredients and the glass are thoroughly chilled beforehand
