Irish Buck
A tall, effervescent highball that predates the Mule craze by decades. Irish whiskey, fresh lemon, and ginger ale create a lighter, drier, and more sessionable alternative to its ginger beer cousin.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Irish whiskey
- 4 oz Ginger ale
- 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
- lemon wedge (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with smoked chicken, BBQ pulled pork, or cheddar-filled beef croquettes to complement the ginger ale's spice and the whiskey's warmth. The highball's effervescence refreshes between hearty, savory bites.
Instructions
Fill a highball glass with ice
Pour Irish whiskey over the ice
Add fresh lemon juice
Top with ginger ale and stir gently once or twice to combine
Squeeze a lemon wedge over the top and drop it into the glass
Tips
The difference between a Buck and a Mule is the mixer: ginger ale for the Buck, ginger beer for the Mule; the Buck is drier and more subtle Use a crisp, not-too-sweet ginger ale like Fever-Tree or Canada Dry for the cleanest result This is an ideal warm-weather or session drink; the low-proof profile and effervescence make it very easy to enjoy over a long afternoon
