Hennessy Margarita
A modern crossover hit that swaps tequila for cognac in the classic margarita formula. The grape richness of cognac pairs surprisingly well with lime and orange liqueur.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Cognac (Hennessy VS or similar)
- 1 oz Fresh lime juice
- 0.8 oz Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- 0.5 oz Simple syrup
- salt rim (half) (garnish) garnish
- lime wheel (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Serve alongside blackened fish tacos or charred carnitas with cilantro-lime crema; cognac's grape richness pairs beautifully with smoky-spiced Latin flavors and bright citrus.
Instructions
Run a lime wedge around half the rim of a rocks glass and dip in coarse salt
Combine cognac, fresh lime juice, Cointreau, and simple syrup in a shaker
Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds
Strain over fresh ice in the prepared rocks glass
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim
Tips
A VS cognac works best here; using VSOP or XO is unnecessary since the citrus and salt will mask the subtleties Grand Marnier in place of Cointreau leans richer and more cognac-forward since it is brandy-based Add a few slices of fresh jalapeno to the shaker for a spicy variation that pairs wonderfully with the cognac
