Chartreuse Swizzle
A tropical tiki-inspired drink built on green Chartreuse, created by Marcovaldo Dionysos at Smuggler's Cove in San Francisco. Crushed ice and pineapple tame the herbal intensity into a surprisingly refreshing sipper.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Green Chartreuse
- 1 oz Pineapple juice (fresh preferred)
- 0.8 oz Fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz Velvet falernum
- freshly grated nutmeg (garnish) garnish
- mint sprig (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with coconut shrimp, jerk chicken, or fresh ceviche to complement the tropical tiki profile and Chartreuse's vibrant herbal notes. The drink's exotic sweetness bridges Caribbean and French flavors beautifully.
Instructions
Combine green Chartreuse, pineapple juice, lime juice, and velvet falernum in a highball glass
Fill the glass two-thirds full with crushed ice
Swizzle with a bar spoon or swizzle stick by spinning it rapidly between your palms until the glass frosts
Top with more crushed ice to form a dome
Grate fresh nutmeg over the top and tuck in a mint sprig
Tips
Fresh pineapple juice makes a noticeable difference here compared to canned — the brightness keeps up with the Chartreuse The swizzle technique is essential, not decorative — it properly dilutes and chills the drink to balance the high-proof Chartreuse If you cannot find velvet falernum, John D. Taylor's is the standard bottle to seek out
