Canadian Coffee
A warming after-dinner cocktail that showcases Canadian whisky's smooth, vanilla-forward character alongside fresh hot coffee and cream. Simpler and silkier than its Irish cousin.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Canadian whisky
- 4 oz Hot brewed coffee
- 0.5 oz Maple syrup
- 1.5 oz Heavy cream (lightly whipped)
- grated nutmeg (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with warm apple crumble or pecan pie to echo the vanilla and caramel notes in Canadian whisky. The dessert's spiced richness complements the coffee's warmth perfectly for a cozy after-dinner experience.
Instructions
Warm a wine glass or Irish coffee glass by filling it with hot water, then discard the water
Pour the maple syrup into the warmed glass
Add the hot coffee and stir to dissolve the maple syrup
Pour in the Canadian whisky and stir gently to combine
Float the lightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon so it rests on the surface
Garnish with a light dusting of freshly grated nutmeg
Tips
Whip the cream just until it barely holds a shape — it should be pourable, not stiff Maple syrup instead of brown sugar is the Canadian twist that sets this apart from Irish Coffee Drink the coffee through the cream layer rather than stirring it in for the intended hot-and-cold contrast
