Between the Sheets
A Prohibition-era cocktail that layers cognac, rum, and triple sec with a bright hit of lemon. Deceptively smooth and potent, this forgotten classic deserves a revival.
Ingredients
- 1 oz Cognac
- 1 oz Light rum
- 1 oz Triple sec
- 0.8 oz Fresh lemon juice
- lemon twist (garnish) garnish
Pairs With
Pair with tropical appetizers like shrimp ceviche or coconut-lime risotto; the rum-cognac base and citrus brightness complement light, bright, island-inspired flavors.
Instructions
Combine cognac, light rum, triple sec, and fresh lemon juice in a shaker
Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds
Double strain into a chilled coupe glass
Express a lemon twist over the drink and drape it on the rim
Tips
This is essentially a Sidecar with rum added; if it tastes too boozy, increase the lemon juice by a quarter ounce A blanco or lightly aged rum works best; dark rum competes too heavily with the cognac Chill the coupe glass in the freezer for at least five minutes before serving for the best experience
